Spain to Offer Direct Flights to Azores Through 4 Airports This Summer
Direct flights will be made possible through Portuguese airline SATA Air Azores, the flag carrier of Spain – Iberia, and Binter, the flag carrier of the Canary Islands, AtoZSerwisPlus.pt reports.
As Nation Graphics reports, the stunning view of the Azores attracts many international tourists and makes you feel far away from everything. Now travellers from Spain will be closer than ever to the so-called “European Hawaii”. As a result, the Azores will have four direct connections with Spanish airports this summer, which are Madrid, Barcelona, ??Bilbao and Gran Canaria.
At the same time, for the first time ever, from June 2 to September 29 of this year, Bilbao will also have direct flights to the island of São Miguel, which is the largest in the Portuguese archipelago.
Whereas SATA Air Azores has also introduced a new route that will connect the city of Biscayan and Ponta Delgada, through Juan Pablo II International Airport (PDL).
The Iberia Airline last week also announced that starting from July 1 until September 30, it will start a new weekly direct connection to Spain. Starting from this date, travellers can enjoy a three-hour and 25-minute journey operated by Iberia that will connect the Spanish capital with Ponta Delgada on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Moreover, the Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat airport will add a new connection to Ponta Delgada with a frequency of three weekly flights: Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
Thanks to the interline agreement between the Canarian company and SATA Azores Airlines, the Binter airline also makes it possible to connect the Canary Islands with eight islands of the Azores archipelago after landing in Ponta Delgada.
In this regard, the airlines emphasise that the cooperation between these two companies improves the comfort of the passengers, who will be able to make these connections only with a single ticket.
Since last month, there has been a weekly connection available from Gran Canaria airport, on Saturdays, to which a second line will be added starting from July 1, operating on Tuesdays.
Furthermore, if the Azores cannot be reached directly, it is still easily reached from other cities. There are 12 Spanish airports that TAP Air Portugal connects with Lisbon during the summer located in the following cities:
- Alicante
- Ibiza
- Málaga
- Menorca
- Palma de Mallorca
- Seville
- Tenerife
Meanwhile, the company connects the Portuguese capital with Ponta Delgada at least three times a day as well. After this, travellers can also make a stop at the Humberto Delgado airport, which is a transit airport for reaching the archipelago.
