Portuguese Airports Surpassed 100,000 Daily Arrivals in October
Meanwhile, the daily average number of arriving passengers at Portuguese airports exceeded 100,000 during the same month, AtoZSerwisPlus.pt reports.
According to INE, this figure signifies an 11.6 per cent increase compared to the same month last year, when the daily average passenger count was 90.700. In addition, the current number of arrivals exceeded the 2019 pre-pandemic figures, with a daily average of 85.900 passengers in October.
The arrival figures from January to the end of October 2023 exceeded those of the same months in the previous year, as well.
During this period, Lisbon Airport had the highest number of arriving passengers, with 49 per cent of the total handled passengers (28.7 million). Such a figure represented a 21.3 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2022 and a 7.7 per cent increase compared to pre-pandemic year 2019.
Porto Airport had 22.4 per cent of total passengers and also marked an increase of 21.9 per cent compared to the previous year, whereas Faro Airport increased by 18.3 per cent.
The United Kingdom was the primary country of origin and destination for flights, accounting for 17.5 per cent of the total number of passengers disembarked and 17.6 per cent of those embarked on international flights between January and October 2023. According to INE, these numbers represented year-over-year growth.
France and Spain followed as the second and third countries of origin and destination for flights.
In general terms, Portugal’s airports have witnessed an increase in passenger numbers since the start of 2023. Specifically, in July 2023, they recorded the highest passenger count for that month, totalling seven million tourists, a 12.5 per cent growth compared to the previous year.
Last month this year, ANA Airports in Portugal assessed their tariff suggestions, planning an average rise of €1.60 across national airports in the upcoming year. More specifically, Lisbon will see the most notable fee growth, standing at 16.98 per cent, equivalent to €2.29, whereas Porto’s fees will experience an 11.92 per cent increase, amounting to €0.92.
