Portugal Offers Salary of €2,800 to Brazilian Doctors in Attempt to Boost Skilled Worker Immigration
As the authorities have explained, they are offering such a salary in an attempt to attract skilled workers to the country amid the ongoing shortages in the sector, AtoZSerwisPlus.pt reports.
According to Publico, the National Health Service has already begun the process of recruitment of doctors from Brazil.
The same noted that the Central Administration of the Health System wants to attract doctors from Brazil to work in healthcare centres located in regions dealing with the largest shortage of family doctors.
The Portugal News explains that the country’s Ministry of Health will be offering a contract that will be valid for a period of three years to all workers from Brazil that will be employed in primary health care.
Moreover, it was revealed that doctors from Brazil would be mainly working in the regions of Alentejo and Algarve and Lisbon and Vale.
On the basis of the contract, doctors from Brazil will have to work 40 hours per week, and they will have the possibility to “concentrate the work week into four days”. They will also have the right to 22 vacation days.
Similar to Portugal, Germany also is working to boost skilled worker immigration from Brazil.
Germany and Brazil already signed a declaration on the matter earlier in June. During a visit to Brazil, Germany’s Minister of Labour Hubertus Heil and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Annalena Baerbock talked about the work opportunities in the country for skilled workers from Brazil.
Moreover, Minister Heil signed a declaration of intent with his Brazilian counterpart Luiz Marinho. By signing such a declaration, the German authorities said they want to create simplified structures and promote the immigration of workers from Brazil.
Moreover, the German authorities said that they also want to create fairer conditions for all skilled workers from Brazil.
As the authorities said, Germany will mainly focus on attracting more nurses from Brazil as the healthcare sector is dealing with one of the largest shortages.
Other sectors in Germany as well as in some other countries of the European Union are also dealing with shortages in various sectors, pushing them to recruit foreigners.
Recent data issued by the Federal Labour Agency of Germany show that 200 out of 1,200 professions surveyed last year dealt with shortages last year. Service jobs were among the most affected.
