Portugal Issued 120 Golden Visas Last Month, More Than Double of September 2021 Figures
According to the report, of the total of golden visas registered on September, 26 were granted to citizens of China, 17 to US citizens, 16 to Britons, and 14 to citizens of Brazil; at the same time, seven citizens of India benefited from this program, AtoZSerwisPlus.pt reports.
In addition, the recent data provided by Lusa shows that the investment through the Residency by Investment program (RIP), also known as the Golden Visa Program, more than doubled in September this year compared to the same period last year’s figures.
In September this year, the number of Golden Visas almost doubled compared to a total of €30.4 million raised in the same month last year.
Compared to August (€37.5 million), investments through the Residency by Investment scheme increased by almost 80 per cent.
In the first nine months of this year, the investment through Golden Visa increased to €465 million, or 43 per cent more compared to €325 million recorded during the same period last year.
In addition, according to the Lusa report, last month, a total of 120 visas were granted; of them, 100 were based on the criteria for acquiring real estate and 20 for capital transfers.
Through the Golden Visa scheme, wealthy non-EU citizens can acquire residency in Portugal, provided they contribute financially to this country by making an investment and also meeting specific requirements.
Previously, it was reported that RIP brought the country a total of €397.7 million from January until August this year, marking a total of 34 per cent increase compared to the figures of the same period last year.
It was also reported that during the same period, a total of 806 golden visas were issued; of them, 94 were issued by Portugal’s authorities in January, 94 in February, 73 in March, a total of 121 in April, 112 in May, reaching a new record in June during which month a total of 155 visas were issued, while in June there were issued 80 visas and in August 77.
A recent report provided by Portugal’s Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF) showed that as of 19,000 requests for renewal of Golden Visas are pending, which is more than 60 per cent of the total.
