Porto Named “Europe’s Leading City Break Destination 2023” by World Travel Awards
The 30th edition of the World Travel Awards took place on September 29 in Batumi, Georgia. Besides the “Europe’s leading city break destination” award, numerous other awards were presented during the ceremony. These awards recognised the best and leading destinations, attractions and airlines from around the world, AtoZSerwisPlus.pt reports.
According to the list that the World Travel Awards published, Porto was nominated next to 11 other destinations in Europe, all competing for the same award, which are as follows: Amsterdam, Netherlands; Athens, Greece; Berlin, Germany; Copenhagen, Denmark; Dublin, Ireland; Geneva, Switzerland; Lisbon, Portugal; London, England; Paris, France; Rome, Italy and Venice, Italy.
So far, Porto has won the “Europe’s Leading City Break Destination in 2023” award for the third time, previously taking home the honour in 2013 and 2020. Winning three times shows Porto is a top pick for European city breaks, making it a must-visit known for its culture and history.
Porto winning this award for the third time does not come as a coincidence. According to InvestPorto, the city’s investment promotion agency, the number of tourist guests in Porto reached a historic number of 3.7 million in 2019.
Moreover, in August of last year, AtoZSerwisPlus.pt reported that Porto ranked as Europe’s most affordable city for students. These data demonstrate Porto’s consistent commitment to attracting visitors and making it a great place to visit.
