Number of Portuguese Work Visas Issued to Cape Verdeans Fourfolds in 2023
During this period of time, Portugal granted 6,208 work visas for Cape Verdeans, sources from the Portuguese embassy in Praia told Lusa. Based on VFS Global data, of those, 2,276 were for subordinate or seasonal work visas and 3,932 for job-seeking purposes, AtoZSerwisPlus.pt reports.
During January-November of this year, citizens of Cape Verde have filled out a total of 12,549 long-term visas of all types. Of those, 394 were refused primarily because of the submission of forged documents, instances of employer fraud, or the applicants having a criminal record.
6,208 visas were issued for work purposes, 3,975 for study and training, 623 for family reunion and 615 for medical purposes.
Among other things, the embassy noted that over the course of five years, the consular section has consistently observed a “continued growth” in visa issuance of approximately 30 per cent per year.
This issuance was attributed to various factors, including legislative modifications within the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) mobility framework. This encompasses the complete implementation of new visa typologies, such as the work search visa.
Moreover, between January and August of this year, Portugal granted 4,948 work visas for citizens of Cape Verde. This marked a significant increase in the number of issued visas, taking into account that in the last four years, Portugal granted a total of 4,888 work-related visas for Cape Verdeans.
Besides the long-term visas, Cape Verdeans filled out a total of 14,857 applications of Schengen visas (up to 90 days) during January-November 2023. Of those, 11,610 were approved, according to the embassy.
Meanwhile, in 2022, Portugal received a total of 15,710 visa applications from Cape Verdeans. Of those visa applications, 11,371 were approved. After the citizens of Angola, Cape Verdeans were the second among countries that filled the most visa applications to Portugal.
However, Cape Verde led the list of countries with the most denied Schengen visas per capita, in 2022, with 844 rejections per 100,000 individuals.
