Madeira Ends COVID-19 Testing at Airports and Ports for Incoming Travellers
However, it has been explained that only some categories of travellers will be exempt from this entry rule, AtoZSerwisPlus.pt reports.
According to the data provided by Madeira’s official travel portal, Madeira Regional Tourism Board, the requirement to present a rapid antigen test or undergo testing upon arrival at airports of Madeira does not apply to individuals who have recovered from the COVID-19 disease within the last 90 days.
Additionally, exempt from the testing rule are also persons who have been fully vaccinated against the virus with one of the approved vaccines.
A vaccination certificate is valid for entry into Madeira as long as the document proves that the holder has been immunised with AstraZeneca, Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna, Janssen, Sinovac, Sputnik V, and Sinopharm.
Travellers who have only received the first vaccine dose in two-dose vaccination schemes and who have been infected with the COVID-19 within the last 90 days also do not need to present a pre-entry test or undergo testing upon their arrival in Madeira.
Nonetheless, everyone is still obliged to complete a Passenger Locator Form, regardless of their vaccination status. The form needs to be completed within 48 hours before arrival.
In contrast to vaccinated and recovered travellers, persons who have not been vaccinated or recovered from the COVID-19 disease must present a negative test taken before entry or undergo testing upon arrival in order to be permitted entry to Madeira.
Travellers who take a rapid antigen test within 48 hours before boarding can immediately proceed to their destination in Madeira.
“All passengers who, upon disembarking at the airports of the Autonomous Region of Madeira from any territory out of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, carry a negative Rapid Antigen Test for COVID-19, carried out within 48 hours prior to boarding, in laboratories certified by national or international authorities, can proceed to their destination,” the statement of the Madeira Regional Tourism Board reads.
On the other hand, those who have not undergone testing in their country of origin need to take a test upon arrival at the airport. Testing at the airport is free of charge.
“All passengers, whether Portuguese or foreign citizens, with trips scheduled for the Autonomous Region of Madeira, can perform Rapid Antigen Tests (TRAg), at no cost, in several cities in the country,” Madeira Regional Tourism Board added.
Apart from the measures mentioned above, everyone must also follow domestic COVID-19 rules while in Madeira, such as keeping social distance and wearing face masks.
