Bulgaria
Bulgaria is becoming a famous destination for a large number of Britons as it offers cheap hotels, restaurants and bars for tourists, especially Sunny Beach.
Despite the fact that the country’s tourism industry, like many other industries, has been highly affected by the restrictions imposed due to the Coronavirus, the number of international visitors to the country has marked an increase, according to January data from the National Statistical Institute (NSI).
According to the statistical office data, the number of internationals who visited Bulgaria in January increased by 84.1 per cent on the year, reaching a total of 445,000.
In addition, the same source showed that citizens from European Union countries accounted for a total of 38.2 per cent of all arrivals of international passengers in the first month of this year.
Portugal
Portugal has also been considered as an attractive destination for citizens of Britain, particularly the country’s southernmost region, the Algarve, which recently has received a large number of international tourists.
However, recently authorities in the UK urged its citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Sao Jorge’s Island after the same has been hit by over 1,100 earthquakes within just one week.
Still, the President of the Regional Government of the Azores, José Manuel Bolieiro, said that it is important to highlight that the rest of the Azores continues to remain unaffected by seismic activity, adding that it is essential to be vigilant.
The recent data published by the National Statistics Institute (INE) also showed that the tourism industry in Portugal registered a significant increase in January 2022, compared to the same period last year’s figures.
The same showed that the number of accommodations reached 853,200, while the number of overnight stays registered surpassed two million.
Cyprus
Cyprus has also started to attract many international visitors, especially those from the UK, who have recently considered the city of Paphos as a favourite tourism destination.
Recently, the data provided by the Cypriot Interior Ministry revealed that the country welcomed a total of 115,865 international visitors in the first two months of this year, marking a significant increase compared to the same period last year.
